Valencia, Alonso
(Instituto Nacional de Bioinformática, CNB, CSIC)

Bio-informatics scientist. He is currently the director of the Structural and Computational Biology Programme at the National Oncological Research Centre (CNIO). His research group on protein design is working on solving key biological problems by developing new computational methods and resources of use to biologists, the prediction of functional protein characteristics derived from family and structure analysis, and the area of extracting information from biological texts, the development of methods, and primarily the development of a new open system (iHOP) which is used extensively. He also collaborates on educational and interactive projects that strengthen ACTS (Art-Science-Technology-Society) interaction, such as the GNOM project for exploring genetic networks.
